(Montalcino, Italy – October 2006) Castello Banfi, long recognized for excellence in winemaking and hospitality, is adding another jewel to its crown with the April 2007 opening of “Castello Banfi – Il Borgo” luxury accommodations.
The family-owned vineyard estate in Tuscany’s Brunello region already boasts a glass museum, enoteca, and two restaurants: the informal “Castello Banfi – La Taverna,” and the Michelin-starred fine dining “Castello Banfi – Il Ristorante.”
Outfitted with 14 luxury rooms and suites Castello Banfi – Il Borgo takes its name from the cluster of 18thcentury conjoined stone homes built alongside the medieval castle once it became safe to live beyond the thick walls and strong gates, but still prudently close to the protective community. Guests will be nurtured as part of this wine and food destination in a private, cloistered setting. Shared entries from the hillside lane lead to private alcoves, handsomely decorated by Federico Forquet, one of Italy’s eminent interior designers. Each room has a unique persona, all appointed with canopy beds, spacious armoires, writing desks, lounge chairs and couches. Discretely positioned LCD TVs and high-speed internet access complete each room and suite. Spacious bathrooms are equipped with rainfall showers, some with large bathtubs, towel warmers, hand painted tiles and Italian boutique terry towels and bathrobes.
The property includes a cloistered pergola garden, a stone-tiled swimming pool overlooking pastoral vineyards; a small fitness room, a private reading room in the castle keep, and numerous walking and biking paths. Anti-oxidant “Vinotherapia” skin care products, prepared from the estate’s Brunello grapes, are part of each room’s guest amenities. Cooking and wine classes will be organized on an ongoing basis to introduce guests to the secrets of Tuscan cookery and wine appreciation. For the more adventurous traveler, Castello Banfi can organize guided visits to important Tuscan cultural sites, artisan and artist studios, personal shopping tours, and a range of activities from day spa trips to tennis clubs, bicycling tours and beaches.
