Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio

Method of production

Exclusive use of free-run juice to avoid colour extraction from the skins. The temperature-controlled fermentation (15-16°C) is followed by a short storage in stainless steel tanks and, finally, by an early bottling to capture varietal freshness.

The winemaker comment

This wine is Banfi's perfect interpretation of youthful white wines.The Chardonnay imparts roundness, while the Pinot Grigio adds crispness to this fresh and easy-to-drink wine. Ideal as an aperitif or as a perfect partner of fish dishes.

  • Seasonal Outcome The sufficient spring rainfall avoided any water stress during the hot summer months. The quite hot temperatures in July and August, together with a quite wide-range difference in temperature between night and day, favored the grapes maturation. This way, the white grapes could develop an excellent aromatic profile, while the reds could achieve a very good synthesis of polyphenols. September was sunny and dry, with warm temperatures that let complete the ripening of the grapes and yielded for most favorable conditions during the harvest.
TASTING

The color is pale straw yellow. The bouquet is full of intense aromas like Williams pear and white flowers. This wine has a great acid structure and savoriness, but it is also soft, round and well dimensioned. The aromas in the finish are gently intense and persistent.

    A soft pressing has been chosen to avoid color dissolution, a very important aspect of the procedure for Pinot Grigio especially. The fermentation takes place in 14-16°C temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 13-16 days.

  • Seasonal Outcome The growing cycle began slightly in advance and we had a very rainy springtime also. Summertime months had a below seasonal average temperature, without reaching the previous seasons level. This meant that the maturation of the grapes were on a 10 days delay.
TASTING

The color is pale straw yellow. Aromas are genuinely fruity, with nuances of pear, apple, lime scents. The bouquet is very silky and supported by a lively and vibrant acidity that perfectly gives both freshness and length. The finish is fruity and persistent.  It’s an ideal wine for the summertime, but it marries very well with fish dishes all year round.

  • Seasonal Outcome The growing cycle began with a significant delay, with some rains during the Spring. June was marked by cooler temperatures, under the seasonal average. August and September were hot and dry, but the ripening, despite two weeks delay, have been supported by water reserves of the previous months. Summer nights were characterized by cooler temperatures, contributing to the improvement of the quality of the grapes. From the end of September, rainfall was abundant, causing problems during the repining, without affecting the vineyards.
TASTING

Color is straw yellow. On the nose, it’s very fruity with intense aromas of pear, apple and lime. Extremely soft on the palate, yet lively and vibrant with an acidity that gives a remarkable persistence.
