PRODUCTION AREA
Dedicated vineyards sloping down from the historic Poggio alle Mura Castle crowning our estate. We chose this patch of land, particularly suited to grow Sangiovese, to plant, in 1992, the first vineyard resulting from over a decade of research to isolate the optimal selection of clones.
Altitude: 210-220 meters above sea level.
Position: Hillside.

SOIL TYPE
Yellowish brown color, sandy topsoil, coarse, calcareous; substract of sea sediment originating from the Pliocene age. Abundant rounded rocks.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Sangiovese, from an internal clonal combination.
Treselling system: Cordone speronato (Spurred cordon).
Vine density: 4.200 vines/ha.Hectar yield: 70 q.li/ha.
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE
The grape harvest is followed by a medium maceration of 7-10 days. After an aging period of 12 months in French oak barriques, the wine is properly bottle-aged.
DESCRIPTION
Colour: intense ruby red.
Bouquet: fresh and fruity, with typical varietal notes of cherry and blackberry, eriched by more complex hints of licorice, tobacco and hazelnut.
Taste: large and soft structure, showing a surprisingly long finish.

This Rosso di Montalcino of great elegance results from the perfect combination of tradition and innovation. Research in the vineyards, clonal selection and unique personality distinguish the wines from the Poggio alle Mura range, the prestigious selection by Castello Banfi.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Ideal accompaniment to red meat and savory game, as well as perfect match to medium-aged cheeses. Its good structure makes it capable of long-term aging.
