July 14-24, 2010 - Castello Banfi announces program for the 13th Edition of Jazz & Wine in Montalcino
From Robin Eubanks to the Avion Travel, eight big names to celebrate Jazz & Fine Wine
The “Jazz & Wine in Montalcino” festival, one of the longest running and most prestigious national music celebrations, was founded in 1998 through a cooperative effort of the Castello Banfi vineyard estate, deeply tied to the region and its traditions, the Jazz & Image Cultural Organization of Rome, and the township of Montalcino. Once again, the program is rich and diverse, spanning the musical linguistics of the genre and paying particular attention to the female voices of jazz.
On Wednesday, July 14, the opening concert will take place within the medieval walls of Castello Banfi, with a performance by the Robin Eubanks with Pippo Matino 4tet, the internationally renowned group lead by a great American trumpet player and one of Italy’s most interesting Italian electric bass players.
On July 15 the festival will move, as usual, to the splendid 13th century fortress of Montalcino with the stunning “piano solo” of Danilo Rea, one of the most elegant and eclectic personalities of the jazz-set. On Friday July 16, The Maria Joao Duo will perform, opening the first of three female voices that will perform that weekend. From Lisbon, Portugal, with a unique and charming timbre, she has a long experience with some of the greatest international jazz celebrities. The first week will close with the amazing voice of Rossana Casale on Saturday, July 17, performing with her quartet “The Wine Concert and Readings”, absolutely tuned with the festival spirit and roots. This will be followed, on Sunday July 18, by Roberta Gambarini 4tet, one of the most appreciated and famous female voices, thanks to her unrivaled improvising abilities and great interpretative talents.
The Trio Mirabassi-Renzi-Parker will open the second week, Thursday July 22, with a concert representing the perfect fusion of three great personalities in the international jazz-set. On July 23 the Pietropaoli-DeVito-Mazzariello trio, an experienced group of rare elegance, will dedicate its tribute concert to Joni Mitchell. On July 24 the “grand finale” closing concert will feature the orchestra of “Avion Travel”, which will perform the best of its recent features: Danson Metropoli e Nino Rota, l’amico magico.
For the 13th consecutive year, the two intimate and intense pleasures of jazz music and fine wine will be united once again – celebrating the growing success of their enthusiastic encounter in Montalcino, the city of Brunello.
