Centine Rosso

Toscana IGT - Tinto

Centine Rosso

Uvas empleadas

Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaker comment

  • The growing cycle began slightly in advance. We had a very rainy spring and cool temperatures, and well below the seasonal average, in the summer months. This meant that the maturation of the grapes took place with a delay of about 10 days compared to the previous years. The harvest of early varieties was facilitated by a rather cool beginning of September, while late varieties enjoyed a rise in temperatures in the last decade of the month, which allowed for a full ripening of the grapes.
TASTING

The color is intense ruby red. The perfumes are complex, very sweet and fruity, characterized by notes of plum, blackberry, and ripe cherry, alongside vanilla and licorice scents. The structure is powerful, large and silky. An extremely balanced wine, with a very persisting finish.

  • The growing cycle began in the usual time frame, with dry weather in April and May. June was marked by cooler temperatures and a lack of rainfall. Summer saw a return to regular average temperatures in July through mid-August, when a sudden heat wave raised temperatures over 40°C (104°F) through the end of the month. A sun-drenched September, with normal average temperatures, allowed for a good harvest.

  • The start of the growing season was slightly delayed, with abundant spring rainfall and temperatures in May and June well below the seasonal average. The weather was warm and dry from mid-June through August, when temperatures dropped again. Cool nights helped the development of aromatics and the synthesis of polyphenols in the grapes, enhancing the overall quality of the bouquet and the wine’s acidity. Scarce rainfall allowed for ideal harvest conditions.
TASTING

  • The spring start to the growing cycle was marked by abundant rainfall, which helped provide high levels of water reserves. The rainy phase went on till mid July, with temperatures particularly cool and well below the seasonal norm. After mid July, the weather stayed warm and dry; in this phase, the vines could take advantage of the water reserves accumulated during the spring. Relatively cool nighttime temperatures allowed for the gradual development of aromatics and polyphenols, enhancing the overall quality of the grapes. The harvest went smoothly thanks to dry, warm and sunny days in September and October.
TASTING

The color is dark red with mauve reflections. The aromas are ample, very sweet and fruity, with hints of plum, blackberry and ripe cherry, and with vanilla scents, tobacco and licorice. The structure is strong, large and smooth, very well balanced and persistent.

  • The winter, with more rainfall and warmer temperatures than seasonal averages, was followed by normal weather conditions in the spring. The months of May and June were marked by some rain, with pretty cool temperatures through mid July. The hail storm which took place in mid-August struck only part of our vineyards, sparing our best quality grapes and resulting only in a slight decrease in production. Overall, each of the various growing phases of the vineyard took place slightly later than in previous years, including a two-week delay of harvest to allow for optimal conditions.
TASTING

Deep mauve red color. The bouquet shows fruity notes of prunes and blackberries, integrated with a mild note of jam as well as complex hints of tobacco and licorice. Good structure, soft and powerful, very persistent in the finish.

  • Due to a mild winter, the season was precocious with an anticipated flowering. Heavy rainfalls at the end of May and beginning of June enabled the filling of the water reserves in the soil and therefore avoided any negative consequences by the heat wave in mid-June. The harvest started about one week ahead of time and lasted even until mid October without any difficulties thanks to ideal weather conditions in the fall.
TASTING

Deep mauve red color.  On the nose fruity notes of raspberry and plums, but also spicy hints of coffee, liquorices and cinnamon. The complex structure, soft and round at the same time, makes this wine particularly elegant. Long after taste.

  • The seasonal conditions were marked by a severe spring frost and by one of the most severe heat waves in European history that greatly anticipated the start of the annual harvest. Fortunately, the heavy rainfall of the previous winter allowed for abundant water reserves in the soil, thus avoiding the risk of hydric stress for the plants. The spring frost, combined with the hot summer, allowed for a rich and concentrated fruit, even if greatly reduced in quantity. Most importantly, normal patterns of significant variations between daytime and night temperatures returned, adding finesse and complexity to this very good vintage. The exceptionally healthy berries of this vintage allow for an optimal quality harvesting.

  • A warm and dry start to the season yielded to heavy rains in August and September, delaying normal development. Fortunately, the early harvest of the Chardonnay was completed as the rains began to fall, minimizing any negative impact. Generous spacing between rows of vines also played a positive role, allowing for optimal airflow and avoiding risk of mold.

  • A rainy winter was followed by a cool spring which allowed for an optimal development of the vegetation until mid August, but then the torrid temperature (over 37°C during the day and 20°C during the night) put the plants under a severe hydric stress that stopped the synthesis process and accelerated dramatically the maturation of sugars. It was one of the most challenging vintages in our estate’s history.
TASTING

Ruby red color deep and intense; the hot weather during this vintage makes for the presence of aromas of plums’ jam, but fresh hints of cherries, blackberries, raspberries are also well present. This wine has a good structure with the soft tannins characteristic of this vintage. A wine well balanced and highly enjoyable.

This wine has a full body with a good structure, soft tannins with a long finish. Good potential for maturation, with indications that it will yield even more character in a couple of years.
